This site is really a bibliography of printed information on Russian archives, an essential resource for anyone considering research in a Russian documentary repository.

 

Introduction to Russian Archives

Site created by Dr Olga Glagoleva of the University of Toronto, to supplement their graduate course of the same name.  Includes the course syllabus, some useful links for archival research, archival terminology, basic bibliography, as well as a description of her work in this field. Also provides samples (deciphered and explained) for those who would like to test their skills in the reading of Russian handwritten documents.

University of Toronto based project which "seeks to stimulate the reinterpretation of politics and society in the USSR under Stalin through the use of newly declassified archival materials."

 

Soviet Archives Project

materials prepared by dissident Vladimir Bukovsky (English and Russian) - a huge collection of documents directly copied from archives of KPSS (former communist party of former Soviet Union) including KGB ("Komitet of Gosudarstevennoi Bezopasnosti") reports to its Central Committee available as Acrobat documents.

 

Revelations from the Russian Archive

Documents chosen by the Library of Congress from the 500 made available from the Russian archives, covering the entire range of Soviet history from the October Revolution of 1917 to the failed coup of August 1991.  They include material from archives that had been key working files of the Communist rulers until August 1991: the archives of the Central committee, the Presidential archive, and the KGB.

 

Yale Russian Archive Project
